Leaning up against my Range, I’m waiting in the parking lot for Mia to arrive. Finn just pulled in with Carter, and Mateo is practically asleep, draped across his dark green Jaguar F-Type hood. The girl that dropped him off looked like she was some kind of stripper and couldn’t believe she was dropping him off at high school. She high-tailed her ass off school grounds real quick. I chuckle at the memory.

I watch Mia’s gray Range approach, Raegan in the front passenger seat. Mia pulls into the spot next to mine but doesn’t shut off the vehicle. The passenger door opens and closes, and Raegan comes toward me.

“Mia wants you to get in her vehicle alone. She wants to talk to you.” Raegan says with a severe expression I can’t read. “A word of advice, Theo. Don’t be a caveman with her today, she’s got you by the balls, and she knows it.” Raegan doesn’t wait for my reply, turns, and heads to the school’s front steps.

My brothers and I all exchange a look. Finn nods his head, grabs onto Carter, then a straggling Mateo, and starts dragging them in the direction of the front of the school.

I turn around and head to Mia’s car. I can hear Halsey playing loudly out of the speakers, singing about how she’s going to storm the castle. I smirk to myself; very fitting, Mia, very fucking fitting. My girl is making sure I’m reading her loud and clear.

I open the door and hop into the vehicle, which she immediately puts into drive. We leave school grounds and take the road leading us toward the pristine beaches and waterfront properties Casbury is known for.

I hold my tongue waiting for her to speak first. Hoping that whatever is going to come out of her mouth isn’t going to devastate my whole fucking world.

We drive for a few minutes passing sprawling manicured lawns and mini mansions, the ocean visible on our right side. The music changes from Halsey and castles to Imagine Dragon and their demons. I turn and look her over. Her jaw is tight, and she’s repeatedly biting down on her bottom lip in concentration. Her beautiful long dirty blonde wavy hair is cascading down her back and shoulders. She doesn’t have a stitch of makeup on today, her natural beauty is all that I see. She’s a bit pale this morning and I can see the dark circles under her eyes that she hasn’t tried to hide. It looks like I wasn’t the only one who didn’t sleep last night.

There’s something almost dark and haunted in her look today, almost like she doesn’t know if she wants to run away or come out swinging.

“Your dad’s a cock sucking sadistic fucking monster that needs to be put down.” She doesn’t take her eyes off the road as she lets that statement flow from her beautiful plump lips.

I clear my throat. “I know.”

“I realize the situation you find yourself in, Theo. You can’t fucking leave; I get it.
